What‘s it like there?
If no human-made object has ever been to an exoplanet,
how do we know what they might be like?
We can’t visit an exoplanet, but we can compare places and objects
that we can access to ones that we can’t. These are called analogues.
Another way of predicting what exoplanets might be like is by using our imaginations.
Science-fiction writers often begin with what we know about space and build upon it to explore exoplanets through storytelling.
Award-winning science-fiction author Ken MacLeod has spent his career imagining what other planets might be like. These pages are drafts of early versions of his
Engines of Light trilogy.
