Music in the Museum

Be immersed in music in the unique setting of the museum galleries. Our winter programme for 2024/25 will feature musicians from the University’s Music Centre, playing a variety of instruments and styles.

Enjoy an eclectic mix of genres, from soulful jazz to acoustic folk and everything in between. Don’t miss this opportunity to discover the hidden gems of St Andrews’ musical talent in one of the university’s most unconventional venues. 

In Conversation: is there life out there?

With over 2000 exoplanets discovered in 2024 alone, could one of them be home to life? What does the latest science tell us? How could we possibly know? And how can creativity help us answer this and other questions about our universe? Join a panel of experts as they explore these questions together. This is a hybrid event, the tickets for this event are in person tickets. Bringing together experts from disciplines across the University, we’re asking key questions about alien worlds. The Panel and Q&A discussion can be attended in person or online.

Step back in time to the dawn of science fiction cinema with Aelita: Queen of Mars, the 1924 Soviet silent film directed by Yakov Protazanov. Pianist Matthew Shiel will enhance this cinematic curiosity with an improvised live score. Known for his dynamic and captivating performances, Shiel’s score promises to transport the audience to the visionary world of 1920s science fiction. This screening will include an introduction from Dr Emily Finer from the School of Modern Languages. Runtime 124 minutes. There will be a 15-minute intermission during this screening.
